K-FLEX @ Dragon Boat Challenge

RAINBOWS 12

Staff from the Coalville based L'ISOLANTE K-FLEX (UK) Ltd took to their paddles for a Dragon Boat challenge all in the name of charity.  Eleven crew members from K-FLEX signed up to take part in the Nottingham Riverside Festival Dragon Boat Challenge in aid of Rainbows Hospice for Children and Young People, which helps youngsters with life-limiting conditions.  The challenge took place on Sunday, 6th August and saw the team compete for the first time at the event, raising over £2000 for the hospice through sponsorship, collections and a cake sale.

Dirk Parker, General Manager of K-FLEX UK, said: Rainbows was our first chosen charity back in 2013.  Since then we have decided each year to continue to support Rainbows.  It’s the very essence of what we believe a charity should be:  small enough to care and large in impact of their delivery.  We are in awe of what this charity delivers to the community and to the children and their families whose lives are affected by these life-limiting conditions.   Rainbows is the official charity partner for the event, which takes place on the River Trent in Nottingham.”

He added “There is no better way than getting our colleagues involved in an event to both enhance the team spirit and help our charity of choice. We were not looking forward to the rowing, as training was not organised – so the first time we got into the boat was our first experience. We may not have won the race but we are all better for the experience.  We were determined to have a day to remember.”

44 crews from across the region took part over the 200m course, with the K-FLEX UK team entering 3 of the races, being placed 4th, 2nd & 3rd.  The K-Flex team have committed to enter next year as it was such a great day.
